Title: Computer Literacy
Specific Purpose: make my audience aspire to be more computer literate.
Preview of Main Points: what is computer literacy, how it affects you, and finally what you can do to benefit.
(Attention Getter) Who here believes they know about computers? Well I am sure that with only the exception of a select few in this building most of you could not even tell me what processor is inside your computer, much less be able to repair your computer after a small virus attack.
(Central Idea (Introduce topic and relate it to your audience)) It’s okay, well, no: it is not. You are computer illiterates whom for your lack of knowledge get tricked into buying an expensive items and or services at two to three times its actual value. For example apple products that offer nothing special but a brand, and extended warranties. While not all extended warranties are bad the majority are just a shameless way to obtain your money.
(Establish credibility (Personal experience or qualifying statement)) You can trust me on this I used to work as an electronics sales man and I can tell you most warranties won’t cover 90% of what could potentially happen to your electronics yet a lot of you buy it. Why? Well its simple you assume it covers all. Because a sales man greatest weapon is to make you assume the general idea while making you overlook the little details. Unfortunately this only works while the person is ignorant.
(Preview of Main points with signposts) I am here to talk to you about computer illiteracy, how it affects you and finally how you too can be computer literate.
(Transition) Now, I will begin by talking about computer literacy

... how to diagnose your computer and repair it. So that you don’t become the idiot who bought a 2 year extended warrantee that only covers natural failures such as R.A.M. aka Random Access memory or processor failure, and god forbid you get an apple computer because you believe, they don’t get viruses.
Signpost: now that we have gone over
(Review each main point) what is computer literacy, how it can affect your professional life and how you too can become computer literate.
(Summarize overall theme)I hope that you have a better understanding of computer literacy.
(Memorable ending) finally I would like to say don’t be an illiterate nothing good will come from the lack of knowledge. The road to knowledge can be scary but, knowledge can also be a very powerful tool. I would recommend to everyone here to take computer science 572 and 581 as soon as possible.
