For my “How to do” speech my goal was to share with the class an interesting and informative way to learn something new. Due to the speeches time limit, I knew I needed to be well prepared. I wanted to be less nervous before and during my speech. While presenting I was nervous, but I didn’t really have time for these feelings to sink in because I was focused on the information I wanted to share with the audience. I enjoyed presenting in the second group of speeches so I could see my peers different types of speaking style. The audience seemed alert and interested in my topic which made it a little bit easier for me to speak, because there weren’t any distractions in the room from people not paying attention. I think part of that was because I have become more relaxed as I have gotten to know the class a little better, and because I got to enjoy my classmates speak before me. I think the biggest reason that I was enjoying myself, was because I was excited to share my speech with the audience. I wanted them to find the topic interesting as well.
What I liked most about my speech was my introduction because I started out my speech with confidence and an interesting question for the audience. I also followed my outline and tried to stick to it which made my purpose clear and showed the importance of the topic to the audience. My eye contact was on most of the audience but I wished I looked towards the sides more, my posture was good , my legs did not cross, and my hand movement was minimal and did not move too much which is the case when I usually talk to people. I think I also was able to show the importance of my topic to audience by getting their attention. I avoided making my speech to technical so it will be easy for those who ...

...de for yourself what is right and what is wrong, and then please, expect as much of the world around you. Try to make the world good according to your standards.” Colbert seemed confident throughout his speech and gave encouragement to the audience in a very relaxed way. He gave strong eye contact throughout his speech and overall delivered a strong commencement speech.
In conclusion, I have learned a lot from studying the different ways to deliver a speech and how to capture an audience 's attention. I was personally encouraged by both speakers and found their delivery to be relaxed but powerful, and interesting throughout their entire speech. Both used humor to capture the audience 's attention which I find to be smart to get both the audience and speaker to become relaxed. I have taken away many tips by watching these speeches and now look forward to making more.

Speech Acts : Speech Act ( Speech )

- Speech Acts “Hey, can you reach that,” I asked pointing at a book on the top shelf. The boy standing next to me looked around before replying to ensure that I was, in fact, speaking to him. “Uh, yeah. The blue one?” He responded to confirm which book I had been pointing at. “Yep. Thanks, you’re a life saver.” “No problem,” he said as he handed me the book. I smiled at him before turning to walk back to the table I had been studying at. -           In order to find truth to anything, one must make multiple suggestions, ask many questions, and sometimes ponder the unspeakable. Without doing so, there would be no process of elimination; therefore, truth would be virtually unattainable. Now, in our attempts to either find truth, express our beliefs and opinions, or generally use the rights we are given constitutionally, we are often being criticized and even reprimanded. Our freedom to voice our opinion(s) is being challenged, as critics of free speech are taking offense to what seems like anything and everything merely controversial and arguably prejudice....   [tags: Freedom of Speech Essays]

- I agonized over writing this speech for a long time, because I felt like nothing I could say would make a difference, first because I don't know if what I could say would be good advice, and second because I don't know if advice about things like being true to yourself and setting goals and all that is actually helpful. How can I give advice that I can't even follow in my own life. I was asked to put together a speech for tonight -- I've become experienced at speech writing over the past couple of weeks. - Writing this commencement speech for you tonight was hands-down one of the most stressful things I have ever done. For days, I toiled over what to speak about, worried that as you sat there anxious to graduate I would bore you, or say the wrong thing. I tried to write a witty and funny speech designed to entertain you, but a lack of ability ultimately forced me to give up. This speech is the culmination of hours of brainstorming, three rejected rough drafts, editing galore, and finally me just putting my heart and soul on paper....   [tags: Graduation Speech, Commencement Address]

- As you inhale the aggregate odor of your senior class for the last time, I’m sure there are many burning questions racing through your minds: “Will I find my place in the world?” If you’re lucky. “Am I really going to graduate a virgin?” Yeah, probably. “Who is that incredibly handsome young man addressing us, and how long do we have the privilege of listening to him?” Howdy, Andrew Gonzales here, and hopefully not long; I realize that your robes are making you sweat, your thongs are making you uncomfortable, and my use of the words “virgin” and “thongs” is making your parents sweaty and uncomfortable....   [tags: Graduation Speech, Commencement Address]

- For some of you graduates, this will be the last ceremony you might ever sit through. Most of us, though, and I regret that I am in this group, will sit through many more ceremonies -- ceremonies longer and more tedious that this or anything else you can imagine. If you think this is bad, try a college graduation. Think, that is, attend a wedding. And, if just for a moment you think that that is bad, just be thankful you have never attended or will attend a Bar Mitzvah. The only ceremony I think anybody would truly enjoy attending is a funeral....   [tags: Graduation Speech, Commencement Address]

- Edgar Allan Poe once said, "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream." The 13 years that I have spent attending school have quickly passed through my life as if a dream, much as I imagine it did Edgar Allan Poe.
